Your Home Feature

There is nothing I like more than devouring interiors mags and especially looking at real homes so I jumped at the chance of a feature in Your Home magazine.

I've said it before, but I really think that 'real' homes i.e. terraced houses, flats and rentals are really poorly represented in the media, and so I am so proud that my very simple small house in the (what some people think) is roughest part of Chelmsford is shown here in a magazine! I am so pleased with how it looks, my friend and writer Victoria Hrastic interviewed me for it, which was a complete dream as it meant we had a very good excuse to chat interiors non-stop for a day (our usual chats involve many interruptions from small children!). She of course put me completely at ease, and let me enthuse about how our colourful home came to be.

Lizzie Orme was the photographer and she was so inspiring to see work, I always love the buzz of a photoshoot and this was no exception. I think she's really captured the brightness and feel of our home and it's so nice to have and look back on. I'll come clean and say getting the house ready to photogragh took a whole heap of tidying! It's funny, I now know that this is the way it is - I'm pretty sure every home featured must have its owners furiously tidying before the shoot! and yet still while flicking through magazines I wonder how they keep their homes are as tidy as they are! Oh if only I could keep it like this all the time! One of my favourite things was making sure I had everything styled as I wanted to before they Vicky and Lizzie came, faffing around with things on shelves is pretty much my favourite past time so being able to justify this was such a joy! Things got moved around and angles were changed, and it was just such a lovely day. It was actually in January, but we had a gloriously sunshiney day, and I got to wear my favourite dress (its still in the sale here from Great Plains in case you were interested) and despite not particularly liking having my photograph taken, I have to admit I quite like this one.

The magazine is out now and I love the feature - it articulates perfectly the child centred and yet still design led home that we have, and I hope that it shows that any home can have this. You don't need acres of space or beautiful period features, just an eye for what works for you as a family. Our home reflects so much about who we are and how we see the world, I like to think that this feature shows this perfectly and I hope it will inspire other people with small budgets and big ideas!
