I love finding out about new plants and this month's houseplant from the Joy of Plants is a new one for me, a relative of the geranium family, the beautiful Regal Pelargonium. My 2 girls were a bit smitten with the brightly coloured petals so I took a few snaps outside before bringing them in.
As you can see my littlest lady enjoyed its wonderful scent! With its bright vivid flowers and playful irregular leaves this was always going to be a hit with Alie and I. This playful plant works beautifully with simple colours and patterns, making it the perfect houseplant to adorn your home.
Caring for the Regal Pelargonium:To get the best from a Regal Pelargonium, keep in a light place, water it regularly, directly into the pot and not on the plant itself. Follow this routine and you will get beautiful flowers. If you remove dead flowers, the plant will continue to grow new flowers. After it has flowered in your home, the plant is happy to be placed outside and will bring colour to your patio until late autumn. Place the plant indoors for the winter in a cool room and give it limited water. As always with the Flower Council of Holland they've got a really fun tutorial for how to make a tin can flowerpot, it looks so much fun - would be a great one to do with kids.To find out more about this wonderful plant go to thejoyofplants.co.uk .Posted under –
