GrandFest 2015 - a review

I had the pleasure of going to #GrandFest2015 this weekend in Hoxton. As I mentioned in this post Grandest was a one day festival in London created for the older generation to share craft skills. It was such a treat! Horton came alive and was such a lively, happy atmosphere with lots of glorious pop - ups, music and craft filled spaces.DSC_0090I had booked to go to a flower arranging masterclass at the wonderfully named 'Summer at Monika's' cafe. It was a lovely homely venue and the perfect place to get to grips with a little flower arranging. We learnt how to spray leaves, cut and pin and how to look after our flowers 'they need a little drink everyday just like we do'. Jean and her daughter (I'm so sorry I've forgotten her name) were fantastic grand makers, so much passion and experience in flowers, they were a joy to listen to and be taught by. It was so very therapeutic layering up all the foliage and flowers. While I think my favourite way to arrange flowers is in as simple a way as possible, being taught how to arrange was a great thing and I think a really lovely thing to know how to do. I think the smiling faces of the attendees in our class shows how wonderful this workshop was. making really is such a unifying, self affirming thing to do, people chatted and compared flowers, and the simple act of making allowed us all to relax and focus. It was a lovely afternoon, I really hope they do the festival again, thank you to everyone at GrandFest and the Royal Voluntary Service for making it happen.
