Alie and I both studied textiles at Art school and were fascinated by the traditional crafts we learnt there such as basket weaving, hand dying and weaving. We were so lucky to have learnt these fantastic skills as well as a love of sewing and cooking from our Mum as we grew up. However sadly these days we recognise that this isn't the norm for most people and keeping these traditional skills alive is something that we both feel passionately about, so we were thrilled to learn about
Grandfest, a new festival in East London that brings traditional skills to life.
Run by the Royal Voluntary Service the one day festival on Saturday 13th June will celebrate the skills that older people possess by running workshops around the shops and museums around the creative hub of Hoxton. From making preserves to wood turning, to sequence dancing it sounds like such a fantastic event - but obviously we're most excited about the flower arranging with Jean who 'loves putting her own spin on things & expressing herself through crafts' which sounds like just our cup of tea![embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyJkMRYC_o4[/embed]You can book the workshops
here, and we may see you there! I love creative community events and I think this one is going to be so special. I'll be going to Jean's workshop and blogging about it after, I can't wait to share it with you! Georgia xx
