Flower & Houseplants Trends 2016

Alie and I were lucky enough to be invited  by the people at Funnyhowflowersdothat.co.uk and Thejoyofplants.co.uk (both initiatives run by the Flower Council of Holland) to an expert led reveal of the flower and houseplants trends for 2016. And oh the trends are so exciting! Alie and I was so inspired!DSC_0064Here were the 4 trends were amazingly styled and put together by interior designer Emma Kay.

 Reconsider Space

This look was all about structure, colour and shape, using the mix of interior and exterior spaces and the use of negative space as a focal point. We loved it, I adored the way it was so gutsy and graphic.

I particularly love this red holder below with the gerberas and could work really well for my family home. I could imagine the bright flowers alongside colourful crayons and beads.DSC_0006DSC_0007DSC_0057

Connect The Story

'Harmonious and tactile' this is all about how things are arranged and connected. Orderly but warm and beautiful, I loved the textures and materials in this trend. Sustainability is a key thread, as are ceramics and natural tones.

More is More

While I don't think I match the character specification, this was definitely the trend and appealed to me most and probably the most similar to the style in my home. It's all about 'wall to wall energy, stimulus, creativity, contrast and energy'. The clashing patterns and colours just made me smile instantly and gave me such a lift. Graphic and tropical, it was gloriously kitsch and fun.

The World Beyond

'Fantastical and serene' this trend was just so beautiful, Alie and I totally fell in love with its 'anything is possible' type feel and space age worldliness. It was cosy, yet beautiful and wonderfully romantic. This is the trend that I totally want to recreate at home.

Spots and splashes, shiny, reflective and highly decorative surfaces were all here. Alongside deep blues and greens with pastel pinks and gold contrasts. Loose garlands added to the whimsical look with leafy greens and blossoming branches.
